How is iron overload diagnosed?
There is a range of different indirect and direct approaches to quantifying iron homeostasis / overload.
The main techniques include:
- Serum ferritin (SF)
- Transferrin saturation
- Labile plasma iron (LPI)
- Non-transferrin bound iron (NTBI)
- Liver biopsy
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)
